Lancaster House Conferences

The Lancaster House Conferences were negotiations in London that shaped Kenya’s constitutional transition from British colonial rule to independence in 1963.

Mau Mau Uprising: An armed revolt against British colonial rule in Kenya, beginning in the 1950s and ending with the state of emergency in 1960. The uprising intensified pressure for political change before the constitutional negotiations.
Kenya Independence Constitution: The constitution that established independent Kenya’s institutions and took effect when the country became sovereign in 1963. It codified the arrangements negotiated at Lancaster House.
