Land and water hemispheres

The land hemisphere is the half of Earth centered near western Europe that contains the greatest possible proportion of land; the opposing water hemisphere contains the greatest possible proportion of ocean.

Earth: Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only known world with abundant surface liquid water. The two hemispheres are defined as opposing halves of this planet.
Great-circle: A great circle is a circle on a sphere whose plane passes through the sphere's center. A plane through Earth's center divides the globe into two hemispheres along a great circle.
Land hemisphere center: The land hemisphere center is the point near western Europe around which a hemisphere contains the greatest possible share of Earth's land. Its location illustrates how the land-maximizing division differs from standard hemispheric boundaries.
