Knowra Land warfare Land warfare Land warfare is armed conflict conducted on land by forces using infantry, armor, artillery, and supporting systems. Its operations depend on terrain, movement, firepower, and ground-based logistics.
Combined arms : A military approach coordinating infantry, armor, artillery, and other forces to offset one another’s weaknesses. Ground forces combine distinct capabilities to overcome defenses and exploit openings.
Infantry : Soldiers who fight primarily on foot, often holding or clearing terrain. Infantry can occupy ground that vehicles cannot safely control alone.
Battle of Cannae : A 216 BCE battle in which Hannibal’s army encircled and destroyed a larger Roman force. Cannae remains a clear example of maneuver producing battlefield encirclement.
Air warfare : Armed conflict conducted primarily through the use of aircraft and other forces operating in the air domain. Air power can support ground forces but does not itself occupy terrain.
Conscription : Compulsory enrollment of people into a state’s armed forces. Mass land armies have often depended on governments compelling military service.

Armoured warfare : Combat centered on armored fighting vehicles, especially tanks, operating with supporting forces. Armored forces provide protected mobility and concentrated direct fire.
Battle of Agincourt : A 1415 battle in which English forces defeated a larger French army in northern France. Agincourt shows how terrain and defensive positioning could blunt mounted forces.
Naval warfare : Armed conflict conducted at sea and in coastal waters using naval forces. Naval forces contest maritime control rather than ground territory.
Total war : Warfare in which states mobilize society and economic resources on a broad scale for victory. Prolonged land campaigns can draw entire populations and economies into war.
