Landing craft

A vessel designed to carry troops, vehicles, or supplies from ships to shore, often by beaching or entering shallow water.

Shallow draft: A vessel's ability to operate in water too shallow for deeper-draft ships. A shallow draft lets landing craft approach beaches and coastal shallows.
Higgins boat: The US World War II landing craft, vehicle, personnel, known for its bow ramp and shallow-draft hull. Its ramp enabled troops to disembark quickly during major amphibious landings.
Gallipoli campaign: A 1915–1916 Allied campaign to seize the Dardanelles and advance toward Constantinople during World War I. Its landings exposed the danger of moving troops ashore under fire with inadequate specialized craft.
