Lazic War

The Lazic War was a conflict between the Byzantine and Sasanian empires over control of Lazica on the eastern Black Sea coast, fought chiefly from 541 to 562.

Siege of Petra: A prolonged siege in which Byzantine forces captured the Sasanian-held fortress of Petra in Lazica in 551. The fortress changed hands during the war and anchored Sasanian control of the coast.
Lazica: An ancient kingdom on the eastern Black Sea coast, corresponding largely to western Georgia. The kingdom was the territory whose political allegiance the empires contested.
