Lech Kaczyński

Lech Kaczyński was a Polish politician who served as president of Poland from 2005 until his death in the 2010 Smolensk air disaster.

Jarosław Kaczyński: A Polish politician who co-founded the Law and Justice party and served as Poland’s prime minister. His twin brother was Lech’s closest political ally and a central figure in their shared movement.
Solidarity: A Polish trade union and social movement that challenged communist rule beginning in 1980. Kaczyński emerged as an activist within the movement opposing Poland’s communist government.
Smolensk air disaster: The 2010 crash of a Polish government aircraft near Smolensk, Russia, that killed all 96 people aboard. Kaczyński and much of Poland’s political and military leadership died in the crash.
