Legal anthropology

Legal anthropology studies law as a cultural and social practice, examining legal institutions, dispute resolution, and how people create and experience norms across societies.

Legal pluralism: The coexistence of multiple normative or legal orders within the same social setting. It explains how state law interacts with religious, customary, and community norms.
Case method in anthropology: An ethnographic method that traces particular disputes to reveal social rules and relationships. It turns concrete conflicts into evidence about how law operates locally.
