Leonard Bloomfield

Leonard Bloomfield (1887–1949) was an American linguist whose structuralist methods shaped linguistic analysis in the United States and the description of Indigenous languages.

Structural linguistics: An approach that analyzes language as a system of relationships among linguistic units. Bloomfield helped establish this approach in American linguistics.
Bloomfield's postulates: A set of definitions and assumptions Bloomfield used to formalize linguistic analysis. They state the foundational terms and procedures of his linguistic framework.
