Levon Ter-Petrosyan

Levon Ter-Petrosyan is an Armenian politician who served as the country’s first president from 1991 to 1998 and led Armenia through its early post-Soviet years.

Karabakh movement: A late-Soviet Armenian mass movement advocating the transfer of Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia and later supporting Armenian independence. Ter-Petrosyan became a leading figure as the movement widened into a campaign for Armenian sovereignty.
