Li Zongren

Li Zongren was a Chinese military commander and politician who served as acting president of the Republic of China from 1949 to 1950.

Bai Chongxi: A Chinese Nationalist general and politician, Bai Chongxi was a leading Guangxi military commander. Li’s close military partner, Bai helped build the Guangxi clique and served in Nationalist governments.
Guangxi clique: A regional military and political coalition based in Guangxi that became influential in Republican China. Li and Bai built their power through this coalition before joining national campaigns.
Acting President of the Republic of China: The constitutional officeholder who temporarily exercised the Republic of China presidency when the president was absent or unable to serve. Li assumed the acting presidency after Chiang Kai-shek stepped down in January 1949.
