Liaodong Bay

Liaodong Bay is the northernmost embayment of the Bohai Sea, bordered by Liaoning Province in northeastern China. It is a shallow coastal water body with extensive wetlands and major ports.

Bohai Sea: The innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea, enclosed by northern and eastern China. Liaodong Bay forms the Bohai Sea’s northernmost embayment.
Tidal flat: A broad, gently sloping coastal area exposed at low tide and submerged at high tide. Extensive tidal flats occur along the bay’s shallow shores.
Yingkou Port: A seaport in Liaoning Province on the eastern shore of Liaodong Bay. It is a major commercial port serving the bay’s eastern coast.
Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea tidal flats: Intertidal wetlands fringing the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea coasts of China and Korea. The bay’s shore forms part of this extensive, ecologically connected wetland system.
Liaodong Peninsula: A peninsula in southern Liaoning Province, between the Bohai Sea and Korea Bay. Its western coast helps define the bay’s eastern boundary.
Estuary: A coastal water body where river freshwater mixes with seawater. River mouths along the bay create zones of freshwater–seawater mixing.
Jinzhou Port: A seaport in Liaoning Province on the northwestern shore of Liaodong Bay. Its harbor provides shipping access to the bay’s northern coast.
East Asian–Australasian Flyway: A migratory route linking breeding areas in northeastern Asia with wintering grounds farther south. Migratory shorebirds use coastal wetlands around the bay as feeding and resting sites.
Yellow Sea: A marginal sea of the western Pacific between China and the Korean Peninsula. The Bohai Sea, including Liaodong Bay, connects to it through the Bohai Strait.
Sediment transport: The movement of mineral and organic particles by water, wind, ice, or gravity. River discharge and coastal currents redistribute sediment across the bay.
