LibreOffice Writer : LibreOffice’s word processor creates and edits text documents, including reports, letters, and books. Writer is the suite’s tool for composing and formatting text.
ODF–OOXML interoperability : The exchange of office documents between OpenDocument Format and Office Open XML formats. LibreOffice reads and writes both formats, though complex files may not render identically.
StarOffice : A proprietary office suite developed by Star Division and later sold by Sun Microsystems. StarOffice is an early ancestor in the software lineage that led to LibreOffice.
Microsoft 365 : Microsoft’s subscription service combining Office applications, cloud storage, and collaboration tools. It offers tighter integration with Microsoft’s formats and cloud services than LibreOffice.
LibreOffice Calc : LibreOffice’s spreadsheet application organizes data in cells and supports formulas, charts, and analysis. Calc handles the numerical and tabular work within the suite.
LibreOffice Basic : A BASIC-derived scripting language included with LibreOffice for automating office tasks. Basic macros can automate repetitive work in LibreOffice applications.
OpenOffice.org : An open-source office suite released by Sun Microsystems in 2000, based on StarOffice code. LibreOffice began as a fork of OpenOffice.org.
Google Workspace : Google’s cloud-based suite of productivity and collaboration applications. Its browser-first collaboration model differs from LibreOffice’s desktop-centered approach.
LibreOffice Impress : LibreOffice’s presentation application creates slide-based presentations with text, graphics, and multimedia. Impress turns the suite’s editing tools toward slide presentations.
LibreOffice extensions : Add-on packages that extend LibreOffice with features such as templates, tools, and language support. Extensions let users add capabilities without changing the core suite.
