Lili Elbe

Lili Elbe (1882–1931) was a Danish painter and transgender woman, among the earliest known people to undergo gender-affirming surgery. Her life became widely known through the memoir Man into Woman.

Gerda Wegener: A Danish painter known for portraits and illustrations, including works featuring her spouse Lili Elbe. Wegener was Elbe’s spouse, artistic collaborator, and a central figure in accounts of her life.
