Line (geometry)

A line is a one-dimensional geometric object extending indefinitely in both directions. In Euclidean geometry, it has length but no width and is determined by any two distinct points.

Point (geometry): A point is an exact location with no dimensions. Two distinct points determine exactly one Euclidean line.
Linear equation: A linear equation is an equation whose variables occur only to the first power. In a coordinate plane, its solutions commonly form a line.
Line segment: A line segment is the part of a line bounded by two endpoints. It is a finite portion of the otherwise unbounded line.
Curve: A curve is a continuous geometric object that may bend through space or a plane. A line is the straightest and simplest kind of curve.
Euclidean space: Euclidean space is the geometric setting of points, distances, and familiar parallel and perpendicular relations. The line's defining properties here are Euclidean ones.
Slope: Slope measures a line's vertical change per unit of horizontal change in a coordinate plane. It encodes a nonvertical line's direction numerically.
Ray (geometry): A ray is the part of a line that begins at an endpoint and extends indefinitely in one direction. It keeps one direction of a line while adding an endpoint.
Geodesic: A geodesic is a locally distance-minimizing path in a geometric space. In curved spaces, geodesics generalize straight lines.
Distance: Distance is a measure of separation between points. Distances along a line measure its length without giving it width.
Parametric equation: A parametric equation describes points using one or more variables called parameters. One parameter traces every point on a line.
