Line segment

A line segment is the part of a straight line between two endpoints, including both endpoints. It has a finite length and no extension beyond its endpoints.

Point (geometry): An exact location in geometry with no size or dimensions. The segment consists of points, with two singled out as its endpoints.
Line: A straight path extending infinitely in both directions, with no endpoints. Unlike a segment, a line has no endpoints and does not have finite length.
Polygon: A closed plane figure bounded by a finite sequence of straight line segments. A polygon is assembled from segments joined end to end.
Distance formula: A formula for the distance between two points using their coordinates. It calculates a segment’s length from the coordinates of its endpoints.
Incidence geometry: The study of relationships such as point-on-line and line-through-point, without requiring distance or angle. It studies which points and lines contain or intersect segments.
Endpoint: A point at either end of a line segment, ray, or curve. The two endpoints bound the segment and belong to it.
Ray (geometry): A part of a line with one endpoint that extends infinitely in one direction. A ray shares one endpoint with a segment but continues without bound.
Triangle: A polygon with three sides and three vertices. Each of a triangle’s three sides is a line segment.
Midpoint formula: A coordinate formula that averages the coordinates of two endpoints. It gives the coordinates of the point halfway along a segment.
Affine geometry: Geometry concerned with properties preserved by affine transformations, such as collinearity and ratios along a line. Segments remain straight and their internal ratios are preserved under affine maps.
