Linear settlement

A settlement whose buildings and development form a narrow line, commonly following a road, river, coast, or valley.

River: A natural stream of water flowing through a channel toward a lake, sea, or another river. Rivers can guide settlement along banks and provide water and transport.
River transport: The movement of people and goods by vessels on rivers and connected waterways. Historically, river transport encouraged settlement along navigable banks.
