Lionel Barrymore

Lionel Barrymore (1878–1954) was an American actor, director, and composer whose long career spanned stage, silent film, radio, and sound cinema. He won an Academy Award for A Free Soul and later became widely known as Mr. Potter in It’s a Wonderful Life.

A Free Soul: A 1931 American drama film about a defense attorney’s daughter who becomes involved with a gangster. Barrymore won the Academy Award for Best Actor for playing defense attorney Stephen Ashe.
