Lope de Aguirre

Lope de Aguirre was a 16th-century Spanish conquistador who rebelled against the Spanish Crown during an expedition down the Amazon and claimed sovereignty over Peru.

Pedro de Ursúa: A Spanish conquistador who led the 1560 expedition in search of El Dorado and was killed during its mutiny. Aguirre joined Ursúa’s expedition before helping overthrow and murder him.
Mutiny: An organized revolt by members of a military or naval force against their lawful commanders. Aguirre’s seizure of the expedition began with the overthrow of its commander.
