Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is a small volcanic island in the Tasman Sea, about 600 kilometres east of mainland Australia. It is part of New South Wales and is known for its distinctive endemic wildlife and protected landscapes.

Mount Gower: A 875-metre volcanic peak on Lord Howe Island, among the island’s highest summits. Its summit and cloud forest define the island’s dramatic southern skyline.
Shield volcano: A broad volcano built chiefly by repeated flows of fluid, low-viscosity lava. Lord Howe Island’s volcanic foundations formed through this kind of effusive activity.
Lord Howe Seamount Chain: A chain of submarine volcanoes and islands in the southwest Pacific formed as the Australian Plate moved over a hotspot. Lord Howe Island is one exposed part of this volcanic chain.
