Knowra Lorenzo Ghiberti Lorenzo Ghiberti Lorenzo Ghiberti (c. 1378–1455) was an Italian Renaissance sculptor and goldsmith. His bronze doors for Florence’s Baptistery are renowned for their reliefs and innovative use of perspective.
Florence Baptistery : A medieval religious building in Florence, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and famous for its bronze doors and mosaics. Ghiberti’s major commissions were the Baptistery’s north and east doors.
Gates of Paradise : The gilded east doors of Florence’s Baptistery, made by Ghiberti between 1425 and 1452. This is Ghiberti’s best-known work, with ten large biblical relief panels.
Filippo Brunelleschi : An architect and sculptor who competed against Ghiberti in the 1401 Baptistery-door contest. The surviving competition panels reveal sharply different approaches to the same biblical scene.
