Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte

Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte was president of the French Second Republic from 1848 until his 1851 coup, then ruled as Emperor Napoleon III until 1870.

French coup d'état of 2 December 1851: The military takeover by which Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte dissolved the French National Assembly and retained power. This coup ended the constitutional conflict that had blocked his reelection.
Napoleon I: French military and political leader who became emperor in 1804 and established the First French Empire. Louis-Napoléon invoked his uncle's name and legacy to attract Bonapartist support.
