Louis X of France

Louis X ruled France and Navarre from 1314 until his death in 1316. Known as Louis the Quarrelsome, he inherited a kingdom strained by disputes over royal authority and taxation.

Philip IV of France: King of France from 1285 to 1314, Philip IV strengthened royal power and fought conflicts with the papacy and the Templars. Louis succeeded his father Philip IV as king in 1314.
Charter of 1315: A royal ordinance of Louis X that affirmed the liberties of the kingdom’s subjects while addressing taxation and royal governance. It framed Louis’s response to demands for limits on royal exactions.
Charles of Valois: A Capetian prince and influential French noble, brother of Philip IV and uncle of Louis X. He wielded political influence during Louis’s reign and the succession struggle.

Joan II of Navarre: Queen of Navarre from 1328 and countess of Champagne, whose rights to the French crown were disputed. Louis’s daughter later inherited Navarre after being excluded from the French succession.
Royal domain of France: The lands and revenues directly controlled by the French crown, distinct from fiefs held by vassals. Louis’s policies on taxation and emancipation applied to lands under direct royal control.
