Louise Nevelson

Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) was an American sculptor known for monumental, monochromatic assemblages of wood objects arranged in boxlike compartments. Her densely layered sculptures transform discarded materials into unified architectural compositions.

Assemblage (art): An artwork made by combining found or manufactured objects into a three-dimensional composition. Nevelson made assemblage monumental by organizing wood fragments into dense, unified structures.
