Lovecraftian horror

A horror style in which ancient, incomprehensible forces expose humanity’s insignificance in an indifferent universe. It favors cosmic dread over threats that can be understood or defeated.

Cosmicism: A worldview in which human concerns have no special importance in an immense, indifferent universe. This philosophical outlook supplies the style’s central premise: humanity is not the universe’s measure.
H. P. Lovecraft: An American writer whose fiction shaped modern cosmic horror and the Cthulhu Mythos. His stories gave the style its best-known fictional universe and characteristic voice.
Unreliable narrator: A narrator whose account readers have reason to doubt or interpret cautiously. Unstable testimony leaves the nature of cosmic encounters uncertain.
The Call of Cthulhu: A 1928 story by H. P. Lovecraft in which scattered evidence reveals an ancient entity and its cult. Its layered documents and immense sleeping being became a defining model for the style.
