Low-alcohol beer

Low-alcohol beer is beer brewed or processed to contain substantially less alcohol than ordinary beer. Its alcohol content is often below a legal threshold, which varies by jurisdiction.

Limited fermentation: A brewing approach that stops or restricts fermentation to limit alcohol production. It produces low-alcohol beer by curbing yeast activity before much ethanol forms.
Ethanol: The alcohol produced by yeast fermentation and consumed in alcoholic drinks. Its concentration is the main measure used to classify beer as low-alcohol.
Non-alcoholic beer: Beer with alcohol content at or below a legally defined non-alcoholic threshold. Its permitted alcohol content may be lower than the range called low-alcohol beer.

Alcohol by volume: A measure of a drink's ethanol content expressed as a percentage of total volume. It provides the standard numerical basis for comparing low-alcohol and ordinary beer.
Ordinary beer: Beer made and sold at the alcohol strength typical of its market and style. It supplies the comparison point for the reduced ethanol content of low-alcohol beer.
Beer labeling laws: Legal rules governing beer names, alcohol declarations, and related product claims. Thresholds determine which alcohol-content terms producers may use on packaging.
Beer foam: The layer of bubbles formed on beer when dissolved carbon dioxide escapes. Reduced alcohol can alter body and foam stability, complicating resemblance to ordinary beer.
