Lucknow

Lucknow is the capital of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is known for its Nawabi-era architecture, distinctive cuisine, and role as a regional administrative and cultural center.

Bara Imambara: An eighteenth-century Lucknow complex built under Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, known for its great central hall and Bhulbhulaiya maze. Its construction during the 1780s famine joined public relief work to monumental architecture.
Awadhi cuisine: A regional North Indian cuisine associated with Awadh, known for slow cooking, aromatic spices, and dishes such as kebabs and biryani. Lucknow is its principal center, where royal kitchens refined techniques such as dum cooking.

Nawab of Awadh: The hereditary title of the rulers who governed Awadh before its annexation by the British in 1856. The Nawabs made Lucknow their capital and commissioned many of its best-known monuments.
Lucknow High Court Bench: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, which hears cases from parts of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the city’s principal judicial institutions.
Varanasi: A city on the Ganges in eastern Uttar Pradesh, known for its religious sites and long history. Its religious and pilgrimage identity differs from Lucknow’s capital-city and Nawabi heritage.
