Luis García Berlanga

Luis García Berlanga was a Spanish film director and screenwriter whose satirical comedies exposed social hypocrisy and power, notably in Welcome Mr. Marshall! and The Executioner.

Welcome Mr. Marshall!: A 1953 Spanish comedy in which a Castilian village stages a performance for a visiting American delegation. This early satire established Berlanga’s portrait of a community reshaping itself for outside approval.
