Luis Muñoz Marín

Luis Muñoz Marín was a Puerto Rican journalist and politician who became the island’s first elected governor, serving from 1949 to 1965.

Operation Bootstrap: A Puerto Rican industrialization program that used tax incentives and public investment to shift the economy toward manufacturing. Muñoz Marín’s government launched it to reshape employment and production after World War II.
Partido Popular Democrático: A Puerto Rican political party founded in 1938 that became the dominant governing party under Muñoz Marín. He founded and led the party that carried his reform program into government.
