Lure coursing

Lure coursing is a dog sport in which dogs pursue a mechanically operated lure along a course. It tests speed, agility, and willingness to follow the lure.

Lure machine: A motorized device that pulls a lure along a line to simulate the movement of fleeing prey. Its moving line carries the lure through the course ahead of the dogs.
Coursing: The pursuit of live game by hunting dogs, traditionally judged by the chase rather than the capture. Lure coursing adapts the pursuit contest of traditional coursing without live quarry.
American Sighthound Field Association: A United States organization that promotes and sanctions sighthound field events, including lure coursing. It organizes trials and awards titles through an independent competition system.
Live-lure coursing: Coursing in which dogs pursue live animals rather than an artificial lure. Lure coursing replaces the live quarry with a mechanically operated substitute.
Lure coursing field: An open area laid out with a winding path for dogs to chase a lure. The field's turns and distances determine the course's physical challenge.

Lure coursing rules: Competition rules governing lure coursing courses, eligibility, judging, and awards. Rules specify how courses are run and how dogs earn scores or titles.
Sighthound racing: A dog sport in which sighthounds race around a track or along a straight course. Racing emphasizes finishing order, while lure coursing judges pursuit and maneuvering.
