Lystrosaurus

Lystrosaurus is an extinct genus of herbivorous dicynodont therapsids known from the Late Permian and Early Triassic. Its fossils occur across several continents and make it a prominent example of survival through the Permian–Triassic extinction.

Dicynodont: A group of herbivorous therapsids, many with two tusks and a toothless beak. Lystrosaurus belongs to this diverse group of Permian and Triassic plant-eaters.
Lystrosaurus murrayi: A species of Lystrosaurus known from Early Triassic deposits in India and South Africa. Its fossils contribute to identifying the genus across widely separated regions.
Permian–Triassic extinction event: A mass extinction about 252 million years ago that eliminated most marine species and many terrestrial groups. Lystrosaurus became exceptionally abundant in the aftermath of this extinction.
