M1911 pistol

The M1911 is a U.S. semi-automatic pistol designed by John Browning and adopted by the U.S. military in 1911. Its short-recoil action and single-action trigger became defining features.

Short-recoil operation: A firearm operating system in which the barrel and slide recoil together briefly before separating to cycle the action. The M1911 uses this system to unlock its tilting barrel after firing.
