Maastricht Treaty

The 1992 treaty that established the European Union and set foundations for economic and monetary union, common foreign and security policy, and justice cooperation.

European Union: A political and economic union of European states with shared institutions and policies. The treaty created the European Union and defined its initial institutional framework.
