Knowra MacArthur Fellowship MacArthur Fellowship The MacArthur Fellowship is an unrestricted grant awarded to people showing exceptional creativity in their work. Often called a “genius grant,” it provides substantial support without requiring a specific project.
MacArthur Fellows Program : A program of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation that awards fellowships to creative people across disciplines. The Fellowship is the program’s individual award.
Creative freedom : The ability to pursue ideas and work without undue external direction or constraint. Unrestricted funding gives Fellows latitude to choose their own priorities.
John D. MacArthur : An American businessman and philanthropist whose estate helped establish the MacArthur Foundation. His bequest provided the foundation with resources to create its grantmaking programs.
Project grant : Funding designated for a defined project, purpose, or set of expenses. Unlike a project grant, the Fellowship imposes no prescribed project budget.

Artist grants : Financial awards that support artists and their creative work. The Fellowship can provide artists with resources without prescribing a particular project.
