Mackinac Bridge

The Mackinac Bridge is a suspension bridge across the Straits of Mackinac in Michigan, connecting the state’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas.

Suspension bridge: A bridge whose deck hangs from cables supported by towers and anchored at each end. The Mackinac Bridge’s main span uses this structural form.
Main cables: The large suspension cables that carry a bridge deck’s load through suspenders to towers and anchorages. The Mackinac Bridge’s two main cables support its suspended roadway.
