Mahmoud Abbas

Mahmoud Abbas is a Palestinian politician who has led the Palestine Liberation Organization and served as president of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian Authority.

Yasser Arafat: Yasser Arafat was a Palestinian political leader and chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Abbas succeeded Arafat as PLO chairman and Palestinian Authority president.
Palestinian Authority: The Palestinian Authority is an interim self-government body established to administer parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Abbas heads this governing body, whose powers are limited by its interim arrangements and occupation.

Ismail Haniyeh: Ismail Haniyeh was a Hamas leader who served as prime minister of the Palestinian Authority and later led its Gaza administration. His Hamas leadership embodied the rival Palestinian government that emerged after the 2007 split.
State of Palestine: The State of Palestine is a state proclaimed by the PLO and recognized by many countries, with disputed borders and sovereignty. Abbas also holds its presidency, a role distinct from heading the Palestinian Authority.
