Mainframe computer

A large, highly reliable computer designed to process heavy workloads and support many users and applications at once, often with strong security and centralized administration.

Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer: An early general-purpose electronic digital computer completed in 1945. It represents an earlier era of large centralized computers before commercial mainframe families.
Minicomputer: A mid-sized multiuser computer class popular from the 1960s through the 1980s. Minicomputers offered smaller, less centralized systems than traditional mainframes.
Legacy system: An older computing system that remains in use, often because important services depend on it. Long-lived mainframe applications can become difficult and costly to replace.
