Majeerteen Sultanate

A Somali sultanate centered in what is now Puntland, northeastern Somalia, that flourished from the 18th century until its incorporation into Italian Somaliland in 1927.

Harti: A major Somali clan family within the Darod clan confederation, including the Majeerteen. The sultanate’s ruling Majeerteen belonged to this broader clan family.
Boqor Osman Mahamuud: A Majeerteen ruler who governed the sultanate during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He led the sultanate through Italian expansion and negotiated with colonial authorities.
Italian Somaliland: An Italian colonial territory in the Horn of Africa that existed from the late 19th century until 1941. The sultanate was incorporated into this colony in 1927.
