Malachite green

Malachite green is a synthetic triphenylmethane dye used to color materials and stain biological specimens. It has also been used as an antimicrobial treatment in aquaculture.

Textile dyeing: Textile dyeing is the process of applying color to fibers, yarns, or fabrics. Malachite green has been used to color textiles, especially silk and wool.
Triphenylmethane dyes: Triphenylmethane dyes are synthetic colorants built around a carbon center bonded to three aromatic rings. Malachite green is a cationic member of this structural dye family.

Endospore staining: Endospore staining is a differential staining method that distinguishes bacterial endospores from vegetative cells. Malachite green is the primary stain in the Schaeffer–Fulton endospore method.
Chromophore: A chromophore is the part of a molecule responsible for absorbing visible or ultraviolet light. Its conjugated chromophore gives malachite green its strong visible color.
