Malayan campaign

The Japanese military campaign that conquered British Malaya and Singapore from December 1941 to February 1942, forcing the surrender of Allied forces there.

Battle of Jitra: A Japanese victory in northern Malaya in December 1941 that opened the route toward central Malaya. Its rapid Allied defeat exposed how quickly Japanese forces could break the northern defensive line.
Japanese invasion of Thailand: Japan’s military entry into Thailand on 8 December 1941, followed by an agreement permitting Japanese passage. Japanese forces used Thai territory as a route into northern Malaya.
Tomoyuki Yamashita: The Japanese general who commanded the invasion of Malaya and the attack on Singapore. His command coordinated the rapid Japanese advance and the final assault on Singapore.
Fall of Singapore: The British surrender of Singapore to Japan on 15 February 1942. It was the campaign’s culminating defeat and one of Britain’s largest military capitulations.
