Malays

The Malays are an Austronesian ethnic group native to the Malay Peninsula and parts of maritime Southeast Asia, with communities across the region. Malay identity has been shaped by shared languages, Islam, local histories, and changing political boundaries.

Austronesian peoples: A broad family of peoples linked by Austronesian languages and histories across Island Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Malays belong to this wider linguistic and historical family.
