Malik-Shah I

Malik-Shah I was a Seljuk sultan who ruled from 1072 to 1092, when the empire reached its greatest territorial extent.

Nizam al-Mulk: A Persian vizier who served the Seljuk sultans Alp Arslan and Malik-Shah I. As Malik-Shah’s chief minister, he strengthened central administration and helped govern the expanding empire.
Seljuk Empire: A medieval Turkic-Persian empire that ruled large parts of western and central Asia. Malik-Shah’s reign brought the Great Seljuk Empire to its widest territorial extent.
Iqta: A system assigning officials the right to collect revenue from specified lands in return for service. Seljuk rulers used land-revenue assignments to support commanders and administer distant provinces.

Sultanate of Rum: A Seljuk state in Anatolia established by the dynasty’s western branch. It became increasingly independent as the Great Seljuk center weakened after Malik-Shah.
