Dada : An international avant-garde movement that used provocation, chance, and anti-art gestures to challenge cultural conventions. Man Ray joined Dada circles in New York and Paris, where its experiments shaped his work.
Rayograph : A photogram made by exposing objects arranged on photographic paper, a technique Man Ray developed and named. This camera-free process became one of Man Ray’s signature photographic forms.
Le Violon d’Ingres : A 1924 Man Ray photograph depicting Kiki de Montparnasse’s back with two f-shaped violin openings added. Its painted-on forms turn a portrait into a visual pun and a Surrealist image.
