March of Tuscany

The March of Tuscany was a frontier territory in central Italy governed by margraves under Carolingian and later Holy Roman rule. Its boundaries and political authority shifted over time.

Carolingian Empire: A Frankish empire ruled by the Carolingian dynasty from the eighth to the tenth century. Carolingian rulers organized Tuscany as a frontier march within their Italian territories.
