Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher. His private reflections, later collected as Meditations, are a major surviving work of Stoic thought.

Antoninus Pius: Roman emperor from 138 to 161 who adopted Marcus Aurelius and prepared him for succession. His adoptive father and predecessor trained Marcus for imperial rule.
