Margaret Murray

Margaret Murray (1863–1963) was a British Egyptologist and folklorist whose witch-cult theory portrayed European witchcraft as the survival of a pre-Christian religion.

The Witch-Cult in Western Europe: Margaret Murray’s 1921 book arguing that European witchcraft preserved an organized pre-Christian fertility religion. This book set out the theory that made her best known.
