Maritime transport

Maritime transport is the movement of passengers or cargo by sea using ships and other watercraft. It connects ports through shipping routes and supports trade, travel, and supply chains.

Container ship: A cargo ship designed to carry standardized intermodal containers in dedicated holds and on deck. Container ships make large-scale movement of manufactured goods efficient through standardized loading.
Bulk carrier: A merchant ship built to carry unpackaged bulk commodities such as grain, coal, or ore. Bulk carriers move raw materials that cannot be economically packed into containers.
Phoenician maritime trade: The seaborne commerce conducted by Phoenician city-states across the Mediterranean and beyond. Phoenician networks show how early maritime trade linked distant ports and settlements.

International Maritime Organization: A United Nations agency responsible for international standards on shipping safety, security, and pollution prevention. Its conventions establish shared rules for vessels operating across national waters.
Shipping route: A sea passage regularly used by vessels traveling between ports or regions. Routes concentrate maritime traffic along predictable corridors between trade centers.
Cruise ship: A passenger vessel whose journeys are primarily leisure voyages with onboard accommodation and amenities. Cruise ships apply maritime transport to tourism rather than point-to-point travel alone.
