Marmara Region

A geographical region of northwestern Turkey centered on the Sea of Marmara. It spans parts of both Europe and Asia and includes Istanbul.

Sea of Marmara: An inland sea in northwestern Turkey linking the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea through two straits. The region takes its name and central geographic feature from this sea.
Port of Istanbul: A collection of commercial port facilities serving Istanbul and its surrounding region. Its maritime activity links Marmara’s economy to the Black Sea and global trade.
Edirne: A city in European Turkey near the borders with Greece and Bulgaria. It illustrates the region’s Thracian setting and its proximity to European borders.

North Anatolian Fault: A major right-lateral strike-slip fault system extending across northern Turkey. Its active branches make the region highly exposed to damaging earthquakes.
Black Sea Region: A geographical region of northern Turkey along the Black Sea coast. Its coastal climate and orientation differ from Marmara’s strait-centered geography.
