Martti Ahtisaari

Martti Ahtisaari was a Finnish politician and diplomat who served as Finland’s president from 1994 to 2000 and received the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize for mediation efforts.

Namibian independence: Namibia became an independent country in 1990 after a transition supervised by the United Nations. Ahtisaari led the UN transition process that helped Namibia achieve independence.
Tarja Halonen: A Finnish politician who served as president of Finland from 2000 to 2012. She succeeded Ahtisaari as Finland’s president.
