Mary Leakey

Mary Leakey was a British paleoanthropologist whose East African discoveries, including hominin fossils and footprints, reshaped research on human evolution.

Laetoli footprints: A 3.6-million-year-old trail of hominin footprints preserved in volcanic ash at Laetoli, Tanzania. Leakey’s team discovered these tracks, which preserve evidence of upright walking.
Paleoanthropology: The study of human evolution through fossils, archaeology, and evidence from living primates. Leakey’s work joined fossil anatomy, archaeology, and geological context.
