Matthias Ringmann

Matthias Ringmann (1482–1511) was a German humanist, poet, and cartographer who collaborated on the 1507 Waldseemüller world map and its accompanying Cosmographiae Introductio. The publication proposed the name America for the newly depicted continent.

Waldseemüller map: A 1507 world map by Martin Waldseemüller depicting the newly recognized lands across the Atlantic and naming them America. Ringmann collaborated with Waldseemüller on this map, the work most closely associated with him.
